No home spa would be complete without an electric massage chair, and we would say that no living room is complete without one. That’s why we’ve put together the most complete and comprehensive guide to choosing one anywhere on the internet.
When you’re shopping for a massage chair, you probably want to know two things – which is the cream of the crop, and which is the best one you can afford.
To help you out, we’ve curated this list based on our own personal research into the top brands and the most popular models. Attitudes to these products can be quite subjective so we’ve also spent hundreds of hours reading feedback from real customers on blogs and Amazon listings to make our recommendations as universal as possible.
Just a note of warning. Because of the current situation worldwide, a couple of the chairs below are not available. All the ones that are available are highly recommended though.
Here’s a quick peek:

The Top Ten Massage Chairs
#1 - Relaxonchair MK-II Plus ($$)
The Zero Gravity Shiatsu massage chair is a popular choice for both the home, forward-thinking offices, and even wellness centers. Don’t be surprised if you see this model being used in a spa. A mid-range chair boasting solid features, the Zero Gravity Shiatsu has 3 (three) zero gravity positions, L-track rollers, body scanning, remote control, built-in heating airbag system, and deep tissue massage.
As an added bonus, the Zero Gravity Shiatsu massage chair recliner is lightweight – you’ll be grateful when it comes time to rearrange your living room.

#2 - BestMassage EC-06 ($)
The very affordable BestMassage EC-06 has surprising features that you would normally find in much more expensive products. Our favorite features include the full body shiatsu massage experience (so expensive when you get this done in a hotel!), zero-gravity feature, waist heating, rolling foot massage, its build quality, and quiet operation.
It also makes use of the L-track system. An L-track refers to “track” of the massage chair rollers that go up and down your spine, and further down to your buttocks.
Users say it is very therapeutic and even helps to ease chronic pain from rheumatism. Unsurprisingly, given its great value for money, many top 10 lists are capped by the BestMassage EC-06.

#3 - iRest 2021 Massage Chair ($$)
The iRest is a new brand in the massage chair market. The exciting thing about the brand is how they’re bringing innovations into the newest crop of massage chairs.
Say hello to AI voice control and a handrail shortcut key. If you’re a big fan of home assistants like Alexa or Google, then you’ll get a kick out of saying “Hi, Alice” to your iRest massage chair. You can then say entry words to activate specific massage chair functions.
Apart from these new features, the iRest chair comes with our favorite core functions like automatic body scanning, strategically placed airbags, back heating, 3 levels of zero gravity, a 135cm SL track, a decent bluetooth speaker, and finally, a yoga stretching function for you back pain sufferers out there.
- Flexible SL Track & Deep Yoga Stretch
- Advanced 4D Massage Mechanism
- 3D Calf & Foot Massage

#4 - Human Touch WholeBody 7.1 Massage Chair ($)
Human Touch is a brand known for quality budget chairs (they’re on a 6-year winning streak in the Awards for Design Excellence competition). If you have a relatively robust budget and want a minimalist and elegant chair that is as therapeutic as it is beautiful in your living room, then you should consider the WholeBody 7.1 model.
A lot of their technology is patented by the brand so bear with us as we list down its notable features. First off, this model has BodyMap PRO that lets you do targeted massage for specific areas that are painful or need a pummeling. It’s got seamless orbital massagers (which they call FlexGlide) that deliver a really great massage without the pinching and friction you experience from regular massage chairs.
Other things of note are the 5 auto-massage programs like Full, Upper, Lower, Relax, and Sleep massage. It has heat for the lumbar area. It comes with a retractable ottoman, but the strength of this chair is really in the neck/back/shoulder massage it gives. If you also take time to tinker with the controller, you’ll discover even more customization and controls that you might not understand from the manual.
If you’re looking for a beautiful and relaxing chair, this is it.

#5 - Osaki OS-4000T ($$$)
The Osaki OS-4000T doesn’t come as cheap as the other chairs on this list but it’s one of our favorite picks. It’s a very solid investment given the features, quality of design and assembly, and the years of service you will get out of this chair. In addition, buying from a reputable brand like Osaki will give you peace of mind you might not get from other cheaper (or worse, no-name) brands.
This massage chair has an army of features which include body scanning, a zero gravity system, 4 massage functions, 5 massage presets, soles and calves massage, 30-inch roller strokes, and an amazing 48 airbags cushioning almost your entire body. Unlike the BestMassage EC-06’s L-track rollers, the OS-4000T has an ergonomic S-track.
(To explain briefly, an S-track has the massage chair rollers going up and down your spine while an L-track extends down to the buttocks and hamstrings area. In an ideal world, you’d probably want an L-track, but it’s not a dealbreaker. For 99% of people the total chair experience is more important than individual features.)

#6 - iRest SL Track Massage Chair Recliner ($$)
Of all the new brands that came on in the past years for massage chairs, the iRest A303 has managed to maintain excellent trust ratings from their buyers.
The chair is under 2k bucks as of writing, but delivers an amazing array of features. First off, it’s got my favorite body scan feature that optimizes and customizes the whole massage experience. The track is SL meaning the roller track massages the entirety of the curve of your body starting from your neck down to your glutes. The roller track is 135 centimeters.
On top of the excellent roller track, you also get a full body air massage from the airbags throughout the chair. There are 6 types of massage you can choose from (kneading, rolling, shiatsu, tapping, knocking, and tapping/kneading). The stretch mode, which massages and stretches the spine, is a big favorite.
You can also adjust the speed and air massage levels. The massage width of the rollers can be adjusted form 6-21 centimeters meaning you can have a gentle or deep massage.
If you work on your feet all day or your feet give you pain, then this is an excellent chair to consider. The iRest provides excellent foot massages with a combination of foot roller massage and air bag compression.
Some more features we shouldn’t forget:3 levels of zero gravity, space saving feature, lower back heating.
This is definitely bang for the buck.

#8 - BestMassage Zero Gravity Chair With Long Rail ($)
BestMassage chairs have a reputation for being very nice on the pocket and yet delivering a great massage that leaves buyers very happy with their purchases. Fans of this particular model of the BestMassage chair tout this over more expensive premium chairs that they have previously owned.
I was particularly intrigued by reviews talking about how it is “heaven on your back and kinky on your ass”, or how it “works your butt over like a Greek” so we just had to check it out. And guess what? It’s true.
Apart from some amazing action on your behind, the chair has some pretty surprising features despite its budget price. It has full body zero gravity technology, an amazing 50″ L-track, roller massagers, space-saving technology, body sensor, and foot roller scraping.

#9 - Ideal Massage Shiatsu Chair ($)
The Ideal Massage Shiatsu Chair has an amazing array of features for its price. It’s got an automated body scan which means you’ll get a tailored massage experience, 3 incline positions including zero gravity recline, built-in heat for your sore back, 48 airbags strategically placed from your shoulders to your feet, and a leg rest that can be elongated an extra 6 inches for taller users.
Another thing of note about this massage chair is it’s really long track. It is so long it even has a quad roller. Some massage chairs only reach up to your lower back or buttocks.
For those who don’t have much floor space, you’ll be happy to learn it’s got space saving technology. this means the way it’s constructed, it swings back and up in a way that you only need 3 inches from the wall. One last thing of note we’d like to say about this chair is the great customer support. The manual itself is awful but the helpful customer support makes up for it.
If you can’t justify spending several thousands for a chair massager, this body shiatsu massage chair recliner is highly recommended.

#10 - Authentic Beautyhealth Shiatsu ($$)
The Authentic Beautyhealth Shiatsu is a medium-priced chair that offers a wide range of features that you would normally only expect to find on high-priced models. It has 24 types of massages, 2 intensity levels, 3D back scan, foot and calf massagers, and up to 30 minutes of massage time.
The Beautyhealth Shiatsu has no built-in heat. Rather, it makes use of a Jade infrared heating hand massager which can be excellent at targeting problem points in the body. We think the majority of people want their chair to automatically generate heat without them having to do anything – so bear in mind that this model isn’t completely passive.

A Look Back At Our Past Massage Chair Reviews
CompleteHomeSpa has been reviewing massage chairs for many years now. We started so long ago that a lot of the chairs we fell in love with in the past are no longer available for sale in online shops like Amazon. Still, you might come across these amazing brands and models through showrooms, eBay, and other similar sites. We’d like to keep the information available for you so here you go.
Below are short descriptions of the massage chairs we reviewed in the past. You can click through to the full review if you need more information. Also, whenever possible, we linked to their Amazon pages if still available online. FYI, this list goes from premium chairs to the ones with lower price tags.
Inada Sogno Dreamwave Massage Chair
After careful consideration, the Inada Sogno Dreamwave is still on my wish list. Fun fact. The Inada Sogno has 101 air bags. The newer iRest which is currently in Top 10 lists has 38. To be fair to the iRest though, the price difference is very big.
Panasonic EP-MA73 Pro Massage Chair
The Japanese brand Panasonic had one of the highest reputations in the massage chair industry for the quality of their products. Nowadays, their massage chair shop only has the MA73 and MAJ7. We’re glad that the EP-MA73 Pro is still available for purchase.
When the MA73 first came out, it was revolutionary in the market. It boasted of 3D Ultra Kneading technology that uses acupressure and shiatsu to work out knots and ease aching muscles. It also has a heated head and foot massage and hand massage.
iRobotics 7 Ultimate Medical Massager
If you like proudly American products, then you’ll appreciate Luraco’s i7. Unlike most massage chair brands, Luraco has a broader range of products. They’re a high-tech firm that “provide research, advanced technologies and innovative products to the military, residential, commercial, and industrial sectors”.
Their engineers and scientists specialize in advanced robotic system designs hence the i7. It is the first robotic massage chair that’s all-US designed and US-assembled. Its customer support is also USA-based, and you’re able to talk to a live human being.
As the name indicates, this premium full body massage chair uses proprietary intelligent robotic massage techniques. The robots may be American, but they are trained in the world’s best massage techniques. There’s Japanese and Swedish, plus modes called morning, night, health care, and deep tissue. It’s an awesome chair for stress-busting, relaxation, AND pain relief from head to toe.
It is also designed with adjustable height and leg parts so that it can support any size of individual (which is a limitation even for some really good chairs).
Infinity Iyashi Zero-Gravity Massage Chair
The Infinity Iyashi Zero-Gravity massage chair has all the requisite features in a premium massage chair including 2 zero gravity positions, 6 auto massage programs, and an advanced design. Its most outstanding feature though is its massage rollers. When the Infinity Iyashi came out years ago, its 49″ track was record-breaking. Up till now, there are few chairs that can beat this length. The handful that I’ve found with a longer track are the Ogawa Master Drive (54″), the Human Touch Novo XT2 (50″), the Luraco Legend Plus L-Track (53″), and the Osaki OS-Pro Maestro (53″).
A lot of buyers particularly want L-tracks because they want more massage coverage and need more attention to their lower backs, buttocks and glutes.
Panasonic EP30007 Real Pro ULTRATM
The Panasonic EP30007 Real Pro ULTRATM is a limited edition model that’s made in Japan. It comes with an ultra-modern design, all the features of a premium chair, and an advanced Junetsu massage technique. The Junetsu technique is a Panasonic trademark that brings ancient Japan’s thumb-roll massage to massage chair technology.
Approved by the American Chiropractic Association, it is highly recommended for therapeutic and chronic pain management uses.
Of all the Panasonic chairs we’ve reviewed in the past, the EP30007 is one of our favorites. To top it off, it comes with a lower price tag compared to other full body massage chairs of its class. It was hard to find then and it is harder to find now.
Osaki OS-7200H
The Osaki line of massage chairs has a reputation for delivering great therapeutic massage at prices that people can (happily) afford. The Osaki OS-7200H has the usual awesome features of premium chairs including five strength settings for mild to deep body massages, 41 airbags, body and legs scanning, arm and hand massage, heat in the lumbar area for relaxing muscle tissue, and a sleek frame reminiscent of the Inada Dreamwave.
- Computer Body Scan
- Arm Massage
- ZERO GRAVITY

Osaki OS-4000T Executive Zero Gravity Massage Chair
The Osaki OS-4000T Executive Zero Gravity massage chair is another memorable chair. It comes with computer body scan, Zero Gravity massage, arm air massagers, leg extensions, back heat therapy, seat vibration, lumbar and hip squeeze, 5 auto programs, and 5 massage combos to name a few.
It is durable and customer support at the time we wrote our review was excellent.

Kahuna LM-7000
We still remember the very first time we laid our eyes on the Kahuna LM-7000. (If I’m not mistaken, it was the year 2015.) Our VERY first thought was, “Now that is some eye candy right there!“
Looks aside, the Kahuna massage chair has some pretty impressive features at the time that it first came out including a highly customizable massage experience where you can adjust the roller width, speed, and air cells pressure up to 3 levels. Massage session is also adjustable from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. There are 3 zero gravity positions plus a longer L-track roller system that reaches up to your thigh.
For many years in the past, the Kahuna was one of our Top 3 bestsellers on the site.
No products found.
Cozzia 16028 Shiatsu Massage Chair
The Cozzia 16028 Shiatsu Massage Chair has been praised by a lot of users for its excellent full body massage experience. Its special quad rollers give the sensation of human hands massaging your muscles and gives off an uncanny human-like feel. The chair is very easy to use as just one touch of a button will give you access to the 7 programmed massage sequences.
This shiatsu massage chair does what it does very well, but it IS missing some features like shoulder and calf massage so if you need to target these spots, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
BestMassage Zero Gravity Soft 3D Hand Massage EC01
When the Zero Gravity EC01 was first introduced, it already came at a very affordable price point. Thus, the elegant design and realistic massage experience continue to be a pleasant surprise.
It comes with 8 massage functions including our favorites: Shiatsu (for relaxation), Chop Action Tapping (for soreness), and Percussion (for deep pressure massage). The massage techniques address taut muscles, stiff joints, bad circulation, and cellulite storage.
One drawback of the EC01 is that it doesn’t have heat for any part of the body.
- Buttocks: high power vibration motor and air pressure massage
- Thighs: double-layered air bags
- Calves: air bags massage

Full Body Shiatsu Chair Recliner Bed EC-69
The Full Body Shiatsu Chair EC-69 has 5 massage options, durable materials, a less bulky frame, and an affordable price tag. The chair works by using a vibrating effect which helps soften the thick fatty layers of the body and improve blood flow. It also gives off a rejuvenating and relaxing massage.
Due to the design though, this shiatsu massage chair is not built for bigger or bulkier folks. It’s also not recommended for casual sitting because a lot of folks feel the rollers through the padding. That means you’d use it as a chair to go and get a massage in, and not as the main chair you’d sit in to watch TV.
Now we’re going into our picks for the best cheapest chairs of the last 10 years. These chairs don’t have the full suite of features you get in the most expensive chairs (you won’t get a full-body massage), but they do provide a pleasant massage experience.
iJoy Active 2.0 Massage Chair
We love the iJoy Active 2.0. It reminds us of that wee train in The Little Engine That Could in that it’s a feisty little character who won’t let his size hold him back. It’s so good that it’s even ended up in our list of the Top 10 Massage Chairs in the past.
HomCom Deluxe Heated Vibrating PU Leather Massage Recliner Chair
The HomCom Deluxe is a well-made chair with basic features. It has 5 pre-programmed massage settings, massage in four zones, and even a heated seat. There are no rollers on the HomCom reclining massage chair, but it does offer an invigorating vibrating body massage.

Relaxzen 60-425111 Leisure Recliner Chair
For the amazingly low price, the Relaxzen 60-425111 cannot be expected to have features like its more expensive high-end brothers. Still, it holds its own surprisingly well. It has 8 vibration massage motors, 5 intensity levels that can adjust the amount of pressure, and a heating pad for your lumbar area. If you’re after a relaxing massage, then you’ll definitely get it with this chair. As a bonus, some people also find that it is effective for pain management and that it helps with their arthritis and back pain.
Obviously, this recliner chair is not perfect. Made in China, it can be a bit noisy (like a vibrating phone on a table) and the swivel base can tip you over if you’re picking something up. Except for these manageable issues, the Relaxzen 60-425111 is the perfect example of a budget chair done right.
Massaging Black Leather Recliner and Ottoman
The Massaging Black Leather Recliner and Ottoman is the last massage chair on our list. Similar to other budget massage chairs, it has basic features, 5 programmed massage settings, vibrating massage, a light structure, and a manual recline. The vibrating massage experience is very relaxing and is able to cover your back, lumbar area, legs, and thighs.
Because of the very affordable price, quality assembly, and satisfactory massage experience, a lot of people purchased this chair.
Massage Chair Brands You Can Trust
Nowadays, the massage chair market is dominated by new brands touting affordable chairs with the baseline features. Still, we continue to have a bias for the big brands of old.
Why you should buy a trusted brand if you have the budget for it:
- First, the big massage chair brands have their names on the line. Producing and marketing substandard products will only hurt their reputation and brand image.
- These brands have been in the business for years and have built up their reputation through hard work and a genuine track record of producing quality massage chairs.
- These companies usually come with excellent customer support and this is important when you have issues or questions about your purchase.
- If you need to get your warranty fulfilled, it’s easier to circle back with these manufacturers.
Sure you can get dirt cheap deals at fairs, parking lot sales, and carnivals. However, it’s not uncommon to lose your cash deposit, get saddled with a lemon, or be sold a chair with dubious quality from a fly-by-night company. Buying from trustworthy brands pays for itself in the end.
So what are the top massage chair brands in the market? Apart from one respected Japanese brand, the others are American. The Japanese are well-known for their advances in technology and machinery, and we Americans are known for going to the MOON, so yes, we can make a good massage chair.
Inada
Website: http://www.inada-massagechair.com/
Japanese brands are hands down the best in my humble opinion. The construction and design are simply top notch. While you can run into problems with brands like Fujita that actually make their products in China, this isn’t an issue with the premium Japanese brands. And of all the Japanese brands out there, my favorite is the Inada.
Why?
I just love most, if not all their models. I personally go for massage chairs for relaxation but Jane has a lot of aches and pains due to horse-riding. And this is where the Inada brand shines: They are perfect for people with bone and muscle issues or for people who are engaged in demanding athletics.
For example, both the Dreamwaves and the Inada Flex are great for pain relief but the Flex focuses on posture correction.
(For a bit of brand history, Inada has been in the business since 1962.)
Let’s just put it this way. If you have the money to spend on one great chair, we’d be pointing you to an Inada chair.
Here is an interview of a guy who purchased one chair, returned it, and ended up with an Inada:
Human Touch
Website: http://www.humantouch.com/
We’ve said it several times in our reviews how much we love this brand. We really like their Perfect chairs, the Bali, and iJoys and have been recommending them to our readers.
Apart from trying out the chairs ourselves, Jane and I also thoroughly researched what real people were saying about these chairs and the feedback was really good. One of the recurring themes was what great chairs they were and how absolutely durable they were. Almost indestructible, they would write. A Human Touch chair would just go on and on and on. And at such an affordable price! Their chairs start at $500.
For this article, I actually dived into their History page and it was very revealing. In fact, I now understand why we liked the brand so much. Human Touch is apparently made up of people who are very proud of what they do. They take the creation and production of their chairs very seriously and obviously think of their brand as something akin to a family member.
And I just have to mention, it’s a huge green flag when a manufacturer has a really good website. Many brands don’t even have one, and so you won’t be able to see the faces behind the brands. But not this company. Their CEO, Engineering, and Design heads are at the forefront.
For that reason, I really enjoyed this video. Not only will you see their customer support team at Long Beach, California, you’ll also see their Engineering head talk about how they manufactured their chairs so that hazardous and dangerous substances are kept out.
I also stumbled across a video of Dr. Wiedner paying the Human Touch company a visit and getting a tour. The video is old though but the exciting part is when they strip down a chair and you can see the mechanisms inside.
Summing up, Human Touch is a great US brand with an excellent customer support in California.
Osaki
Website: http://www.osakimassagechair.com/
The name Osaki sounds Japanese and it can be mistaken for a Japanese brand. However, Osaki has its chairs manufactured in China and their base of operations (or their customer support at least) in Carrollton, Texas. Apart from massage chairs, they also sell handheld massagers, foot massagers, and other back relief and fitness products.
I personally lean towards Japanese-made products compared to Chinese-made ones, however, I have noticed that big retail brands like Buildabear Workshop and Miniso (two of our favorite retail brand names) have their products similarly manufactured in China. It appears that there is a difference between the no-name knock-off Chinese products that flood the market versus the big-name brands that have their products manufactured by the Chinese. I attribute this to stringent and high quality control systems in place. Overall, Osaki massage chairs are built well enough that they’ve made it to our Top 10 massage chair list and other top 10 lists out there by other websites.
In addition to a great design and functionality of their chairs, the second shining attribute of Osaki is their excellent customer support. We read about how massage chair expert Dr. Alan Wiedner decided to carry the Osaki brand in his own showroom because of this very reason.
So, if the other Japanese and US luxury brands are too expensive for your pocket, check out massage chairs by Osaki.
Luraco
Website: http://www.luraco.com/
Luraco is proudly an all-US company. Believe it or not, they don’t only make massage chairs, they also have products in the military and industrial sector. This is probably why their models look so badass.
They’re based out in Arlington, Texas and specialize in robotic massage chairs. The sheer number of patents they hold is crazy.
This dedication to advanced technologies is reflected in the medical massage chair line up. On the high end of the spectrum in terms of price, the iRobotics and the Legend nevertheless deliver when it comes to features and durability.
Some of the special features of iRobotics include voice commands, monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate, and robotic technology. The fact that these chairs are proudly US made means that the sizing for these chairs is especially tailored for US buyers.
You can read what the Weber State University has to say about the health benefits of Luraco’s iRobotics 7 HERE.
If you want a harder massage (the Inada chairs have softer massages) and want some serious advanced features (e.g. a foot roller and a good remote control), check out Luraco chairs.
Kahuna
Website: https://www.kahunachair.com/ (warning – obnoxious autoplay music and videos)
We can’t leave out America’s bestseller can we? If you asked us what our most popular massage chair review is, we can easily and quickly answer — it’s the Kahuna. (You can read our review HERE.)
Now bear in mind, I think a huge factor that people are buying this a lot is that it provides a good balance of price and features. You can get a lot of the features that you would normally only get from premium chairs.
Kahuna massage chairs are distributed by AJX.LLC and have been in business since 1997.
Summary
Massage chairs have incredible long-term benefits to your health, sleep, and mental well-being. When setting your budget, consider the cost per day over 5 years. Would you pay 3 dollars a day for a luxurious shiatsu massage? Of course you would!
