Could the iJoy bring joy to your home? If you’re looking for a classic massage chair that’s easy on the pocket and built to last and last, the iJoy is it.

Executive Summary

The iJoy-2580 massage chair is the perfect balance between features and price. It doesn’t have the sweeping range of features offered by the pricier chairs on the market but what it does offer, it does superbly.

Millions of dollars have gone into the development of the Human Touch range – it’s no coincidence they have a reputation for durability and can last you up to a decade if treated well. It will only be comfortable for people 5’10” or less in height so beware if you don’t fall into this category.

If variety doesn’t matter much to you in massage programs and you want a budget chair that will last, the iJoy is a great match for you.

Pros

Built to last

The iJoy has a reputation for durability. This is not to say that you should start holding wild parties in the chair. However, it can last you for years if maintained well.

Customers have reported their iJoy-2580 still going strong even after a decade of use.

Adjustable Intensity

The adjustable intensity may not be immediately obvious as the adjustment isn’t done via the control panel per se, but manually. The iJoy comes packed with a cushion — the removable massage softening pad listed in the features.  You can zip this into a pocket if you wish to tone down the kneading pressure from the default.

Alternatively, if you want to a more intense experience, you can unzip the existing padding and fold it down to remove the buffer between your back and the rollers.

Good Massage Quality

The iJoy’s massage experience is enjoyable, if not greatly varied. There are three 15-minute massages: Refresh entire back (rolling motion), Relieve neck and shoulders (kneading motion), and Release lower back (choice between compression or percussion).

The programs do a good job of relieving tense muscles and working the aches out from your back.

Easy to Move and Install Alone

The iJoy chair is a measly 88 pounds compared to its 250-pound behemoth brothers in the market. It’s a breeze to maneuver, relatively speaking.

What’s more, it comes with wheels. You can push it to wherever you like without needing a chiropractor afterwards.

Cons

Not Suited For Taller People

You may be out of luck if you’re above 5’10” in height. Even ‘short’ NBA players like Steph Curry would have difficulty fitting into this chair.

Apart from just not fitting comfortably into the iJoy massage chair, people of this height also miss out on getting a proper massage on the upper back and shoulders.

Another factor that makes it uncomfortable for taller people to use is listed below.

Chair is Too Low

The iJoy looks like a nice, comfy easy chair. However, one issue is that it’s built rather close to the ground.

As a result, it can be rather awkward for taller people whenever they lower themselves into the chair. The same problem arises when elderly or non-athletic people try to get up from it.

Limited Features

Even with value for your money, you can only get so much for the iJoy-2580’s low price. It offers a control panel, 3 massage programs, and the ability to recline.

If you’re looking for more—like zero gravity positions, body scan software, or even just leg and foot massagers, you’ll need to check out the higher-priced models in the market.

You know you’re not getting fancy bells and whistles when we’re reduced to featuring photos of cup holders like below… Kidding aside, if you love your massage with a frosty beer or some good wine, this humble cup holder is definitely convenient.

In addition, the Human Touch also has a leg and foot massage ottoman that goes with the iJoy massage chair.

Fabric Disintegrates After Several Years

As mentioned previously, the iJoy massage chair’s mechanism keeps working for up to a decade or more. On the flip side, the fabric that covers it doesn’t hold up so well. It starts flaking around the 4th year, and by the 8th year, it starts disintegrating altogether.

Conclusion

The iJoy Massage Chair makes no great inroads to innovation. Don’t expect any cutting-edge technology here. It’s a classic chair with just a few things that it does well for a reasonable price. It can last for so long that you might even wish it’d break down already so you can get a newer model.

Don’t forget, however, that it’s only made to comfortably fit people around 5’10” or less in height.

The price and expected lifetime make it a good buy for the budget-conscious and not-so-tall massage chair shopper.
