This post is very much overdue as exfoliating gloves have been a permanent fixture in my bathroom for years and years. They’re cheap, they don’t take up much space, they look pretty and best of all, they’re very efficient.
It all started with the loofah craze from years ago. Everybody and their mother were gifting each other loofahs. Made from the sponge gourd, loofahs were quaint and made you feel great about using organic. Using them, however, was a bit more difficult. They didn’t last long, they grew molds or bacteria very easily, and because they are made from the fibrous material of the gourd, the irregular fibers irritated my skin.
After giving up on my loofahs, I went back to the drugstore and bought myself a pair of exfoliating gloves and I’ve been using them ever since. They’re made of sturdier material, can be cleaned more easily, last longer, and thanks to the many choices online, I could choose just how abrasive I want the gloves to be.

The Dermasuri mitt is very popular especially for those suffering from skin problems like Keratosis Pilaris. It’s a harmless skin condition, but those who have it suffer from visible dry rough patches and tiny bumps on their arms, thighs, cheeks, and buttocks. It doesn’t look too great so it’s understandable why people would want some respite.
The Dermasuri is a deep exfoliating mitt so it really sloughs off dry skin. To use this mitt, you will need to soften your skin for 5-10 minutes. You can do this by soaking in warm water or steaming. Wet the mitt and squeeze away excess water. Apply to your damp skin and vigorously rub up and down until you see dead skin cells sloughing off. The manufacturer says NO soap or body wash must be used to get the full effects, but if you’re tentative about the whole process, try using it with a bit of body wash in the beginning until you get a feel of just how sandpapery the mitt actually is.

If you want to get a bit more for your money but still get good quality gloves, then take a look at these body scrubbers by Beauty by Earth. One purchase gets you a pair.
These exfoliating gloves work very well. They’re of medium abrasion. The coarseness is just right for sloughing away excess skin cells but they are soft enough not to hurt or tear your skin. The construction is very good and the colors are beautiful. They’re also durable because they last longer than the expected time frame I’m supposed to chuck out the gloves and replace them.
When wet, the gloves expand especially the teal ones. They are best for people with small to medium hands.

Best Basic: The Body Shop Bath Gloves
I’ve said time and time again that The Body Shop, like most Korean beauty brands, is one of my favorite beauty stores. The products are great and the packaging is always eye candy. Going into a Body Shop store and perusing what they have on display always feels like Christmas. They just have so much good stuff.
It’s no surprise that they’re selling bath gloves. If you are looking for a cheap exfoliating bath glove with an abrasive material, then you’ll want to check these out. They come in different colors like off-white, pink, green, white, and orange. They’re not the best of everything I’ve tried but they do sell them at a low price.

Best Exfoliating Mitts: Kessa Exfoliating Glove Value Pack
If you prefer mitts over the 5-fingered gloves, then get these Kessa Royal scrubbers. One pack includes two gloves. The Blue is rough and the Salmon is delicate. You can use the Salmon for the more delicate parts of your body like your armpits or your neck, while the coarser Blue glove can be used for the soles of your feet and elbows.
Similar to the Dermasuri exfoliating mitt, you are NOT encouraged to use soaps and body wash when using these exfoliators. Just steam well, get your skin really soft and damp, and then rub these against your body. For best results, the company highly recommends using their Moroccan Black Soap first then following it up with these exfoliating gloves. (I haven’t gotten around to trying their organic black soap but it’s highly tempting because it is supposed to be very nourishing and moisturizing yet exfoliating at the same time.)
